Kimpton Hotel Monaco – Views are mandatory here

Kimptons are all over the country and we always know what to expect: a clean, beautiful room with funky decor. Free happy hours. Awesome front desk staff. A good on-site restaurant. And there’s usually always something unique to each hotel.

Standing guard over the historic Chicago River, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco is as storied as it is stylish, and its location puts all the best parts of Chicago at your feet. Being only a few feet from the riverside and on the northern edge of the Loop, the Monaco is perfectly positioned for travellers keen to explore Chicago on foot. A self-touted “pedestrian paradise” .

Inside, it’s typical Kimpton flair, with brocade curtains and dark walnut finishes filled with comfy furniture, a grand open fire, double-height lofted ceiling and elegant art deco finishes. The lobby is the perfect mix of comfort, space, luxury, quirkiness and inviting, as I’ve found all other Kimpton properties.

The design and decor of the lobby and the hotel were so chic!

Kimpton Hotel Monaco is a 192-room hotel. Clearly designed to a brief of combining comfort and homeliness with stylish elegance, the suite is full of little details that makes such a difference to your stay.

The digs were recently renovated in a sophisticated yet playful aesthetic in a palette of white, gray and cool blues. The room is spectacular, with a comfortable sofa, a well-appointed bathroom, huge smart TVs and a bed that loves you!

It’s tough to find a better view than the one you’ll get here. Each window within the thick, century-old walls of the building have been turned into daybeds, where you can enjoy incredible views over the river and northwards over the Loop. We had the perfect view of it without ever leaving our bedroom. We definitely spent our time lounging and gazing out the window a lot.

I was also impressed with all the precautions they took for COVID-19. You are not allowed to leave your room without your mask on and you must maintain 6 feet social distancing, hand sanitizers everywhere, and all food is takeout. We felt so safe.

The in-house restaurant Fisk & Co is the restaurant attached to the lobby of the hotel. Unfortunately, They were closed for indoor dining, but you can order takeout. So we actually ordered breakfast in room the following morning.

Kimpton hotels love to keep surprising you. I love every Kimpton hotel I’ve ever stayed at, but the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Chicago had a very unique charm to it. Surpassed all our expectations and made for two incredibly enjoyable stays and remember, Views are mandatory here !

Tip: Book a room overlooking the Chicago River for an extra special river views
